CODE OF ETHICS
PREAMBLE
3D Printing is a one of the rare opportunities to observe a world changing technology in its infancy. Like the cell phone, the computer, and the automobile, there was once a world “before” and then a definitively different world “after” these technologies became part of the mainstream. One day 3D printing is going to take over the world. It will replace traditional manufacturing in a widespread way across every market from construction to prosthetics. A 3D printer will be in every home readily available to pump out any number of household items. Everyone will know how to use them at least on a basic level, and the industry will continually grow.
But today, 3D printing is still niche. It is still finding it’s place in the world. Those who use them should bare in mind the weight of the responsibility they have. Everything they print can be used for good, or bad. In the interest of self-preservation those people who use 3D printers should adopt a policy of responsibility and sustainability. The public and federal reception of 3D printing technology depends completely on how these tools are used at this stage. Future laws that impact what the average person is allowed to “print” and any eventual impact to the environment is decided by the foundation that is being laid now.
SJRoy Labs is a one-person project. Which makes it important now more than ever to establish a Code of Ethics to abide by if the project grows into a business. This Code of Ethics has six Guiding Principles to assist in ethical decision making now and in the future.
